Why am I doing this Q/A section?

This web page was founded and is run by Deb Smith, who has thrombophilia and has had blood clots. In April 2001 I met Deb Smith at a thrombophilia meeting organized by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, which was held to explore the needs of patients with thrombophilia. I participated in the meeting as a medical advisor. I thought Deb's activities to improve availability of information to individuals with thrombophilia through her web page were excellent. Similar to Deb, I am a believer that knowledge is power and improves health outcome. Since her web page was mainly patient-driven, I offered to give medical input as a physician, in form of the Question/answer section. I am only responsible for the Q/A section of this web page. I have not reviewed all the information on the rest of this web page and can therefore not comment on its scientific accuracy.

Medical and Legal Issues
Any decision on the management of a patient needs to be based on an individual patient's special circumstances. Medical decisions can often only be made after a thorough medical history has been obtained, old medical records have been reviewed, the patient has been examined, and additional labs or tests have been performed. None of the comments in the Q/A section on this web page are meant to replace the evaluation of a patient by a good and knowledgeable physician.

Whilst the advice and information in this Q/A section is believed to be true and accurate at the date of writing, I can not accept any legal responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions that may be made, or any medical decisions that will be based on the information on this web page. The reader is strongly urged to consult with a knowledgeable physician before making decisions.
